संतान की मंगल कामना के लिए जीवित्पुत्रिका व्रत मनाया जाता है, जिसे जीतिया भी कहा जाता है. यह व्रत आश्विन मास के कृष्ण पक्ष की अष्टमी तिथि पर मनाया जाता है, जो इस साल 29 सितंबर यानी आज है. आज के दिन माताएं अपनी संतान की लंबी आयु और अच्छे स्वास्थ के लिए व्रत करती हैं. इसमें विधि-विधान से कुश का जीमूतवाहन बनाकर मां दुर्गा की पूजा की जाती है. यह व्रत भी अन्य व्रत की तरह ही पूरे विधि विधान से किया जाता है.
