About Birbhum mahavidyalaya
In 1979 the Government of West Bengal established one Girl’s College in Suri , the Headquarter town of District of Bibhum with a view to impart education to younger girls .But in 1987 the college was converted into a co-educational Degree College. Birbhum Mahila Mahavidyalaya was renamed as Birbhum Mahavidyalaya.
In 2012 this college has been successfully accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), an autonomous institution of the University Grants' Commission (UGC).
Shri Pranab Kumar Mukherjee, present President of India donated a considerable amount to the college when he was an MP of Rajyasabha. Dr.Ramchandra Dome ,Hon’ble M.P. , General Shankar Roychowdhury, Govt. of India’s former Chief of the Army (former M.P., Rajyasabha), the Department of Higher Education, Govt. of West Bengal have donated from their funds from time to time for the different development of the college. The University Grants’ Commission has been kind enough to allot financial grants under several heads of Projects for the rapid developmental features. The University of Burdwan also extended its fraternal hands for expansion of different academic plans and programmes.
