South Malda College, affiliated under the UGC and to the University of Gour Banga (UGB),has an illustrious tradition which contributes to its own culture.
It was established in 1995 under the visionary leadership of eminent social worker, Ex-Union Minister and Ex-Member of the Parliament Late A. B. A. Ghani Khan Chowdhury to impart knowledge based on higher education to the people of this area, a large section of which is economically backward and denied of social justice.
The college was inaugurated by the then -Prime Minister of India Late P. V. Narashima Rao on the auspicious day of September 16th, 1995.
