വൈലോപ്പിള്ളി ശ്രീധരമേനോൻ 1936-ൽ എഴുതിയ കവിതയാണ് മാമ്പഴം. വൈലോപ്പിള്ളിക്കവിതകളിൽ ഏറ്റവും പ്രസിദ്ധമായകൃതിയാണ് മാമ്പഴം. ഒരമ്മ മാമ്പഴക്കാലമാകുമ്പോൾ തന്റെ മരിച്ചുപോയ മകനെക്കുറിച്ച് ഓർക്കുന്നതാണ് ഇതിലെ പ്രതിപാദ്യം. കേകാവൃത്തത്തിൽ ഇരുപത്തിനാല് ഈരടികൾ അടങ്ങുന്ന ഈ കവിത ആദ്യം പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ചത്, 1936-ലെ മാതൃഭൂമി ഓണപ്പതിപ്പിലാണ്. ആറു വർഷം മുൻപ് 1930-ൽ, നാലര വയസ്സുള്ളപ്പോൾ മരിച്ച ഒരനുജന്റെ ഓർമ്മ കവിതയ്ക്കു പിന്നിലുണ്ടെന്ന് കവി വെളിപ്പെടുത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. പിന്നീട് 1947-ൽ ഇറങ്ങിയ ‘‘കന്നിക്കൊയ്ത്ത്‘’ എന്ന സമാഹാരത്തിൽ ഉൾപ്പെടുത്തി. മലയാളകവിതയുടെ നവോത്ഥാനപ്രതീകമായി ഈ കവിതയെ മാരാർ വാഴ്ത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. മാരാരുടെയും എം.എൻ. വിജയന്റെയും മാമ്പഴം നിരൂപണങ്ങൾ പ്രശസ്തമാണ്.

Mango is a poem written by Vyloppilly Sreedharan Menon in 1936. Mango is one of the most famous works of Vyloppilly. The theme is a mother remembering her dead son when he was a mango. The poem, which consists of twenty-four verses in a circle, was first published in the 1936 edition of Mathrubhumi Onam. The poet reveals that the poem is based on the memory of a young man who died six years ago in 1930 at the age of four and a half. It was later included in the 1947 collection 'The Harvest'. Marar has hailed this poem as a symbol of the renaissance of Malayalam poetry. Marar's M.N. Vijayan's mango reviews are also popular.


About the Author Basheer


Vyloppilli Sreedhara Menon (11 May 1911 – 22 December 1985) (also written as Vailoppilli) was an Indian poet of Malayalam literature. Known for his works such as Kudiyozhikkal, Kannikkoythu and Mambazham, Menon was the founder president of the Purogamana Kala Sahitya Sangham, an organization of Kerala-based artists, writers and art and literature enthusiasts. He was a recipient of several honors including Sahitya Akademi Award, Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Poetry, Vayalar Award and Odakkuzhal Award.
