സഹജീവികൾ വിചിത്രമായ സാഹചര്യങ്ങളിൽ അകപ്പെടുമ്പോൾ അവരെ മനസ്സിലാക്കാനും സഹായിക്കാനും മാനുഷിക മൂല്യങ്ങൾ ആവശ്യമാണെന്ന് 'ഒരു മനുഷ്യൻ' എന്ന കഥ ressesന്നിപ്പറയുന്നു. ക്രൂരരായ ആളുകളുള്ള ഒരു വലിയ നഗരത്തെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള ഒരു കഥ രചയിതാവ് വിവരിക്കുന്നു. കുടിയേറ്റ തൊഴിലാളികളെ ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് പഠിപ്പിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് അദ്ദേഹം ആ നഗരത്തിൽ താമസിച്ചു. ഒരു ദിവസം അവൻ ചായയും ഭക്ഷണവും കഴിക്കാൻ പുറപ്പെട്ടു. അവൻ ഒരു റെസ്റ്റോറന്റിൽ പ്രവേശിച്ച് പൂർണ്ണ ഭക്ഷണം കഴിച്ചു. പണമടയ്ക്കാൻ പേഴ്സ് പോക്കറ്റ് പരിശോധിച്ചപ്പോൾ അത് അവിടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല. അത് തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തു. ഉടമ തന്റെ കഥ വിശ്വസിച്ചില്ല. കഥാകാരനോട് തന്റെ വസ്ത്രങ്ങൾ ഒന്നൊന്നായി നീക്കം ചെയ്യാൻ അദ്ദേഹം ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടു. സ്ഥിതി വഷളായപ്പോൾ, ഉയരമുള്ള, സുന്ദരനായ ഒരു മനുഷ്യൻ പ്രത്യക്ഷപ്പെട്ടു. കഥാകാരനുള്ള ബിൽ അയാൾ അടച്ചു. അവൻ തന്റെ പേര് പറഞ്ഞില്ല. അദ്ദേഹം അഞ്ച് വാലറ്റുകൾ പുറത്തെടുത്തു, അതിലൊന്ന് കഥാകാരന്റേതാണ്.

The story ‘Oru Manushyan’ stresses on the need of human values to understand and help the fellow human beings when they are caught in strange situations. The author narrates a story about a big city with cruel people. He stayed in that city teaching English to migrant labourers. One day, he went out for his tea and a meal. He entered a restaurant and ate a full meal. When he checked his pocket for his wallet to pay, it was not there. It was picked. The owner did not believe his story. He asked the narrator to remove his clothes one by one. When the situation was getting worse, there appeared a tall, fair-complexioned man. He paid the bill for the narrator. He did not tell his name. He took out five wallets and one of them belonged to the narrator.

About the Author Basheer

Vaikom Muhammad Basheer (21 January 1908 – 5 July 1994), also known as Beypore Sulthan, was an Indian independence activist and writer of Malayalam literature . He was a writer, humanist, freedom fighter, novelist and short story writer, noted for his path-breaking, down-to-earth style of writing that made him equally popular among literary critics as well as the common man. His notable works include Balyakalasakhi, Shabdangal, Pathummayude Aadu, Mathilukal, Ntuppuppakkoranendarnnu, Janmadinam and Anargha Nimisham and the translations of his works into other languages have earned him worldwide acclaim. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honor of the Padma Shri in 1982. He was also a recipient of the Sahitya Academy Fellowship, Kerala Sahitya Academy Fellowship, and the Kerala State Film Award for Best Story.
