മഴയുള്ള ഒരു ദിവസം സ്കൂളിൽ പോവുകയായിരുന്ന ലില്ലിയെ കുടയിൽ കയറ്റാതിരുന്ന പണക്കാരിയായ സഹപാഠി ഗ്രേസിയുടെ നെറ്റി സഹോദരനായ ബേബി എറിഞ്ഞു പൊട്ടിച്ചു. പോലീസിനെ പേടിച്ച ബേബി, മടങ്ങി വരുമ്പോൾ സഹോദരിക്ക് ചില്ലുകൈപ്പിടിയിൽ കുരുവിയുടെ രൂപമുള്ള കുടയുമായി വരാമെന്ന ഉറപ്പു കൊടുത്തശേഷം വീടുവിട്ടിറങ്ങി. പേരമ്മ, മാമ്മിത്തള്ളയുടെ മർദ്ദനം അസഹ്യമായതിനെ തുടർന്ന് പിന്നീടു വീടുവിട്ടുപോയ ലില്ലി ഒരു ഡോക്ടറുടെ വീട്ടിലെത്തി അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ രണ്ടു മക്കൾക്കൊപ്പം വളരുന്നു. നഗരത്തിലെത്തിയ ബേബിയാകട്ടെ, സൗദാമിനി എന്ന സംഗീതാദ്ധ്യാപികയുടെ വീട്ടിൽ എത്തിപ്പെട്ട് വളരുന്നു. ലില്ലിയുടെ സഹോദരനെക്കുറിച്ചറിഞ്ഞ ഡോക്ടർ അവനെ കണ്ടുപിടിക്കാൻ നടത്തിയ ശ്രമങ്ങൾ വിജയിച്ചില്ല.

ഡോക്ടറുടെ മക്കളുടെ സംഗീതാദ്ധ്യാപിക ആയിരുന്നു സൗദാമിനി. അവരിൽ നിന്ന് ബേബിയെക്കുറിച്ചറിഞ്ഞ ഡോക്ടർ അവനെ തന്റെ വീട്ടിലേക്കു കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുവന്നു. അവിടെ വളർന്ന അവൻ പഠിച്ചു ഡോക്ടറാകുന്നു. ഡോക്ടറുടെ മകൾ മോളിയെ അയാൾ വിവാഹവും കഴിച്ചു. ലില്ലിയെ ഡോക്ടറുടെ മകൻ ജോയിയും വിവാഹം ചെയ്തു. ഡോക്ടർ ബേബിയുടെ ശസ്ത്രക്രിയ ഒരു യുവതിയെ രോഗമുക്തയാക്കി. നന്ദിപ്രകടിപ്പിക്കാനെത്തിയ യുവതിയും ഭർത്താവും നൽകിയ പണം ബേബി വാങ്ങിയില്ല. പകരം ഒരു കുട സമ്മാനമായി ചോദിക്കുകയാണ് അയാൾ ചെയ്തത്. അവർ കുടയുമായി എത്തിയപ്പോൾ അത് ഏറ്റുവാങ്ങാൻ ലില്ലിയും എത്തിയിരുന്നു. സമ്മാനം കൈമാറിയപ്പോൾ, ആ യുവതി ഗ്രേസിയാണെന്നു ബേബി ലില്ലിയെ അറിയിച്ചു. അങ്ങനെ എല്ലാവരുടേയും സന്തോഷത്തിൽ കഥ അവസാനിക്കുന്നു.

Lilly, who was going to school on a rainy day, was shot in the forehead by her classmate Gracie's brother Baby, who did not carry an umbrella. Baby, frightened by the police, left the house after promising to bring his sister a sparrow-shaped umbrella in her handcuffs when she returned. Lily, who later left home after being abused by her grandmother and mother-in-law, goes to a doctor's house and grows up with his two children. Baby came to the city and grew up in the house of a music teacher named Soudamini. The doctor who found out about Lilly's brother tried unsuccessfully to find him.

Soudamini was the music teacher of the Doctor's children. The doctor found out about the baby from them and brought him to his house. Growing up there, he studied and became a doctor. He also married the doctor's daughter, Molly. Lily was also married to Doctor's son Joey. Dr. Baby's surgery cured a young woman. Baby did not buy the money given by the young woman and her husband who came to express their gratitude. Instead, he asked for an umbrella as a gift. When they arrived with the umbrella, Lily had also arrived to pick it up. When the gift was handed out, the girl informed Baby Lilly that it was Gracie. Thus ends the story to the delight of all.

Muttathu Varkey (28 April 1913 – 28 May 1989) was an Indian novelist, short story writer, and poet of Malayalam. He was best known for a genre of sentiment-filled romantic fiction known as painkili (janapriya) novel in Malayalam literature.

Muttathu Varkey emerged as one of the popular writers of Malayalam fiction. He along with Kanam EJ was prominent in popularizing a genre of sentiment-filled pulp fiction known as painkili novel in Malayalam literature. He was a prolific writer and has penned a total of 132 books, including 65 novels. The rest of his works include collections of short stories, plays, and poetry. Many of his novels were adapted into Malayalam films, including the Prem Nazir starrer Padatha Painkili (1957), Inapravukal (1965), Velutha Kathreena (1968), Mayiladum Kunnu (1972) and the Sathyan starrer Karakanakadal (1971).
