ഡോ. കലാം അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ആദ്യകാല ജീവിതം, പരിശ്രമം, ബുദ്ധിമുട്ട്, ധൈര്യം, ഭാഗ്യം, അവസരങ്ങൾ എന്നിവ പരിശോധിക്കുകയും ഒടുവിൽ ഇന്ത്യൻ ബഹിരാകാശ ഗവേഷണം, ആണവ, മിസൈൽ പ്രോഗ്രാമുകൾ എന്നിവയിലേക്ക് നയിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. ഇന്ത്യയിലെ എംഐടിയിൽ (ചെന്നൈ) ഹിന്ദുസ്ഥാൻ എയ്റോനോട്ടിക്സ് ലിമിറ്റഡിൽ എയ്‌റോസ്‌പേസ് എഞ്ചിനീയറിംഗിൽ നിന്ന് ബിരുദം നേടിയ ശേഷം കലാം തന്റെ കരിയർ ആരംഭിച്ചു, ഒരു ഹോവർക്രാഫ്റ്റ് പ്രോട്ടോടൈപ്പ് നിർമ്മിക്കാൻ നിയോഗിക്കപ്പെട്ടു. പിന്നീട് അദ്ദേഹം ISRO യിലേക്ക് മാറി, വിക്രം സാരാഭായ് സ്പേസ് സെന്റർ സ്ഥാപിക്കാൻ സഹായിക്കുകയും ആദ്യത്തെ ബഹിരാകാശ വിക്ഷേപണ-വാഹന പദ്ധതിക്ക് തുടക്കമിടുകയും ചെയ്തു. 1990 കളിലും 2000 ന്റെ തുടക്കത്തിലും, ഇന്ത്യൻ ആണവായുധ പദ്ധതിക്ക് നേതൃത്വം നൽകാൻ കലാം ഡിആർഡിഒയിലേക്ക് നീങ്ങി, തെർമോ ന്യൂക്ലിയർ ആയുധ വികസനത്തിലെ പ്രത്യേക വിജയങ്ങൾ സ്മൈലിംഗ് ബുദ്ധയിലും ഐസിബിഎം അഗ്നിയിലും (മിസൈൽ) അവസാനിച്ചു. 2015 ജൂലൈ 27 ന് മേഘാലയയിലെ ഷില്ലോങ്ങിലെ ഇന്ത്യൻ ഇൻസ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ട് ഓഫ് മാനേജ്‌മെന്റിൽ നടത്തിയ പ്രസംഗത്തിനിടെയാണ് കലാം മരിച്ചത്.

Wings of Fire: An Autobiography of APJ Abdul Kalam (1999), former President of India. It was written by Dr. Abdul Kalam and Arun Tiwari.

Dr. Kalam examines his early life, effort, hardship, fortitude, luck and chance that eventually led him to lead Indian space research, nuclear and missile programs. Kalam started his career, after graduating from Aerospace engineering at MIT (Chennai), India, at Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and was assigned to build a hovercraft prototype. Later he moved to ISRO and helped establish the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre and pioneered the first space launch-vehicle program. During the 1990s and early 2000, Kalam moved to the DRDO to lead the Indian nuclear weapons program, with particular successes in thermonuclear weapons development culminating in the operation Smiling Buddha and an ICBM Agni (missile). Kalam died on 27 July 2015, during a speech at Indian Institute of Management in Shillong, Meghalaya.


About the Author Basheer


Arun Kumar Tiwari (born 10 February 1955) is an Indian missile scientist, author, and professor. He has written several books and co-authored 5 books with Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, including Wings of Fire, the autobiography of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, former president of India. Published in 1999, Wings of Fire has become a modern classic with over 30 reprints selling over a million copies and was translated into 18 languages.

Born in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, after completing his masters in mechanical engineering from GB Pant University for Agriculture & Technology, Tiwari joined Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) in 1982 as a missile scientist. He spent the next 15 years involved in India's military missile development efforts. He developed India's first Titanium air bottle used in ‘Trishul’ and ‘Akash’ missiles and designed Airframes for both the missiles.

In 1992 Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam appointed Tiwari as the Program Director to develop civilian spin-offs of Defence Technologies. Arun Tiwari developed India's first Coronary Stent with Cardiologist Dr. B Soma Raju well known as Kalam-Raju Stent. This led to the creation of Care Foundation and later the Care Hospitals, Hyderabad. Tiwari was awarded the Defence Technology Spin-Off Award in 1998 for his role in developing the stent.
